Use of Information and communications technology
Bernard is an administrator aged over 50 who has worked for the same organisation for many years. The office has moved to software based accounting using spreadsheets and specialist programs for recording staff time used and resource allocation. Bernard is finding it difficult to learn and operate the software.
In addition he is finding it increasingly difficult to see the text on screen. He also feels that the computer skills of the younger people coming into the department are much superior to his own. He is worried that his job may be vulnerable unless he can get more on top of the ICT side of the job. He does not want to express his concerns too strongly in case this draws attention to his own perceived lack of skills and capabilities.
