Career Development in Later Life
Margaret is a 48 year old sales assistant with 18 years service. A single parent, she studied with her children, obtaining A-levels in business studies and English and completing Open University foundation modules. Both her children have now left home, and Margaret feels able to focus on her own career development. She is keen to progress, motivated to succeed, and excited by the prospect of a challenging working life ahead. Unfortunately, her company, while offering an enlightened pre-retirement programme for all workers, has no policy for later-life career development.
